Walking into Cathedral Gorge, Bungle Bungles, WA |
The walk is considered a moderate three kilometre return walk with short steep slopes and narrow ledges and it was recommended to allow one to two hours walking time. The other two walks we wanted to do were much shorter so we decided to do the long one first.
There were lots of people about – most like us travelling either as couples or as groups but there were also the groups with the tour buses. We even saw an elderly lady on two walking sticks being assisted by a guide to complete the walk, and she made it which was most impressive.

The walk was relatively easy and much easier than others we have completed. The scenery around us was amazing with the dome ranges on either side of us. The tracks were well marked and it was easy to follow.
As we neared the end of the gorge we could hear singing – would you believe it was someone singing the New Zealand National Anthem. We couldn’t believe it and it was so great to hear it. We were just sad that the lady only sang the English words and didn’t follow it with the Maori words. After this was finished to a huge round of applause someone else then sang Advance Australia Fair and we really felt our two cultures. Amazing how we have changed in twelve years! We were now in the amphitheatre and the acoustics were fabulous. Different people were trying out their singing voices, with Edelweiss next. Talk about getting around the globe! Peter wasn’t tempted to sing and I certainly didn’t encourage him as he may not have got many of the words of the original song correct.

We are not familiar with any concert or similar having been held in the Cathedral Gorge amphitheatre and we have no internet as I type this to find out. We thought a choir such as the Qantas children’s choir may well have sung here and I will check that out when I can.
