Good times need to come to an end and we made the decision as much as we
have enjoyed Darwin and the surrounding area, we must commence the trip
south east to Townsville and complete stage five of our trip. This is a
distance of 2,500 kilometres.
We left Berry Springs and made one stop at Katherine (where the temperature
was 43.5 degrees in the middle of the day!) and travelled on south to
Mataranka. This was a total of around 400 kilometres. We booked into a
caravan park adjacent to Bitter Springs and then went down to the springs
for a swim. The water is around 30 degrees and is very clear. There are
steps providing access into the main pool area, and then the current takes
you down the stream where there are two exit areas both with steps and
landings.
We had forgotten to take the camera on our first visit, so made a second
visit the next morning before continuing our journey south.
While Peter had a business call early on Friday morning I went for a walk
along the tracks from the camp and met this wallaby enjoying the morning
sun. I wandered along the river bank before heading back to camp.
Gill and Peter like to travel. In 2011/12 they completed a trip around Australia. One of the things that they are aware of is the fact that to live your dream then you actually have to do something and that's what they did. In 2013 they decided to further explore outback Australia and crossed the Simpson Desert. Going forward they will continue to travel as they plan for the next few years. To see some of their other trips follow the links.
