Soon after driving through the birridas we saw the signage for Herald Bight.
Although it was getting late in the day we decided to drive the five
kilometres each way. The track deteriorated on our way in and we laughed at
the sign post that said no camper trailers or caravans - any person that
took a caravan on the track must be very confident of their off-road
ability. It was surprising because at the beginning of the track the
signage had said no caravans.
You will see from the photo that the sand tracks were quite deep and the
sand was really soft. We had a swim, and noticed that there was one group
of people camping further along the beach. This was reassuring as the soft
sand was hard to walk in let alone drive. We were really pleased when we
were able to drive out without any assistance.
Gill and Peter like to travel. In 2011/12 they completed a trip around Australia. One of the things that they are aware of is the fact that to live your dream then you actually have to do something and that's what they did. In 2013 they decided to further explore outback Australia and crossed the Simpson Desert. Going forward they will continue to travel as they plan for the next few years. To see some of their other trips follow the links.
