Overlook the township of Carnarvon there is a large satellite dish. The
Overseas Telecommunications Base which is situated on the edge of the town
ceased to operate as an earth satellite base on 31 March 1987. Carnarvon
was the site of Australia's first earth station for satellite communications
and during the "Gemini" and "Apollo" space missions it was the station that
saw Australians viewing their first satellite television program - an
exchange between Carnarvon and London.
Unfortunately the area is now fenced off and not open to the public - it may
be about to undergo some renovations and refurbishment but there was no
signage to this affect.
Gill and Peter like to travel. In 2011/12 they completed a trip around Australia. One of the things that they are aware of is the fact that to live your dream then you actually have to do something and that's what they did. In 2013 they decided to further explore outback Australia and crossed the Simpson Desert. Going forward they will continue to travel as they plan for the next few years. To see some of their other trips follow the links.
