we said that we planned on leaving the caravan in Broome and travelling up
to Cape Leveque for five days. We understood that the road to the cape was
dusty and corrugated for half the 220 kilometre drive, and interestingly
this is the first half of the road. So out came the tent, and with the
purchase of another small tent, we had our accommodation. Shops are limited
at Cape Leveque so we took all our food requirements with us but fortunately
fresh drinking water was available. The first half of the road was pretty
dusty and although the grader had been through the first thirty kilometres
or so it soon deteriorated to lots of corrugations. Our travel speed was
between 60 and 70 kms per hour and if Peter drove any faster he was soon
told by me to slow down! It was so good to see the bitumen but it was short
lived as we soon turned off the main road to head the 40 kilometres into
Middle Lagoon, and this was through thick sand. All good for the
experience.
We stopped off around half way and had a lunch stop at the entrance to
Homestead Station - just as well we had supplies in the car as there were no
shops along the way.
We booked into an Aboriginal camping area at Middle Lagoon for the first
three nights and then moved on to Kooljaman Resort at Cape Leveque for the
final two nights.
